I guess I feel like I'm gaining wings but don't really know what to do with them yet! I'm very afraid to try to fly and maybe tumble... But, as I said on the blog, this is a great challenge for me and certainly one worth going for. I was very excited after creating the blog and will be really happy if I can make good use of it in the classroom and, who knows, even outside it, as the internet knows no frontiers!. Here in Uberlândia Ana Maria has created blogs for different levels where we post videos, slideshows, grammar links, games, revision classes, etc and I've had many positive feedbacks from the students. However, they are not a channel of comunication with their teachers, so I intend to use this blog for something more interactive, where they can really practise their English in a real yet virtual context.
In my opinion: if ALL sts have access to this technology (we don't want anyone feeling excluded), why not use it to engage them? But engaging doesn't mean using it all the time. There has to be a balance between traditional and innovative teaching. "Whatever, Whenever and Wherever" seems to be a bit too extreme for me and would tend to lead to chaos. We know that children are moved by pleasure. What if they don't consider the topic we are working on to be interesting and decide to wander out of it and play videogames on their iPods or chat online during the lesson? The teacher wouldn't have much control... Also sts must develop a sense of responsibility. In short, I would use this technology mainly to (1) to introduce a topic and engage students; (2) as home assignments to encourage them to use such technology for educational rather than only recreational purposes ("teach me to think" idea) and (3) for developing collaborative projects where they can demonstrate and consolidade their learning. But always keeing in mind that a balanced " diet" of innovative and traditional teaching methods is essencial.
